Cafcass figures show record number of care applications made in one month
A record number of care applications ever made in a single month were received by Cafcass in June 2016.
There were 1,265 care applications made in June 2016, compared with 1,150 applications in May. The previous highest number of applications made in a month was 1,237 in February this year.
In June 2015, there were 1, 115 applications, showing an increase of 13 per cent in applications between June 2015 and 2016.
In the last financial year from April 2015 to May 2016, there were a total of 12,776 care applications made, Cafcass figures reveal. This figure is 14% higher when compared in the previous financial year of April 2014 to March 2015 when 11,159 applications were received.
In the three months so far in this financial year April-June there has been 3,638 care applications made.
