The number of care applications received by Cafcass has reduced by 5 per cent over two years, the latest statistics have shown.
Cafcass received a total of 1,179 new care applications in August 2018 - 5.1% lower than August 2017.
The number of care applications also fell from the previous month when 1,228 care applications were received.
Annual figures of care applications fell for the first time last year when Cafcass received 14,223 in April 2017-March 2018 - down from a record 14,599 in 2016-17.
President of the family courts division Sir James Munby previously warned that the number of care cases were rising “seemingly relentlessly," and urged new, innovative and better ways to handle the increasing number of care applications to be sought.
Cafcass was praised by Ofsted in March for its continuous improvement against a backdrop of rising demand and was rated as 'outstanding'.
Anthony Douglas announced revealed earlier this year that he will step down as chief executive of Cafcass in March.
