Decline in number of care applications

There has been a significant fall in the number of care applications made in April compared with the previous month, figures have shown.

There were 1,029 care applications made in April 2017 after a record number of applications made in one month was recorded in March when 1,288 applications were made, said Cafcass.

The figures were also down 16% compared with April 2016 when 1,226 care applications were made.

Between April 2016 and March 2017, Cafcass received a total of 14,543 applications. This figure is 14% higher when compared with the previous financial year.

ADCS and Cafcass recently launched guidance for social workers on working together in care proceedings following the steep rise in applications.
