Assessment of Parents

Parenting Capacity Assessment

We are able to undertake a comprehensive assessment of parenting skills using a variety of approaches. Our experienced consultants are able to assess attachment relationships, children's development progress and evaluate factors that might place children at risk of harm. We have particular expertise in undertaking parenting assessments in situations where there are significant child protection concerns such as neglect or when there is a risk of sexual or physical abuse, parental violence or substance abuse.

Extended Community Based Assessment

In our experience vulnerable parents, particularly those with learning disabilities, require specialist assessments. We recognise that the best way to approach these assessments is to combine extended observations with educational programmes in order to help parents meet the needs of their children. We have developed skills designed to combine these elements within an integrated assessment based on the Parent Assessment Manual. Using a variey of approaches designed for working with vulnerable parents we produce a comperehensive report that addresses not only parental capacity but also issues pertaining to risk and need.

Viability Assessment

Sometimes a prelimary view upon the suitability of a parent or extended family member to care for a child/children is required. Through our network of experienced independent social workers we can complete these assessments swiftly and then undertake a more comprehensive assessment if required.
