I am an Independent Social Worker, having qualified in 1987. I undertake independent parenting and kinship assessments for local authorities and the court. I have significant experience of direct work with children having been a self employed Children’s Guardian for the past seven years. Previously I worked as a local authority Social Worker for over fourteen years during which time the majority of my work has been in child protection. I have experience of working with children and parents in distress, often in extremely difficult circumstances. Much of my child protection work has been with women who have had poor parenting and have suffered neglect, emotional, physical and sexual abuse and who have gone on to have children who have experienced similar patterns of abuse. I have experience of working with adolescent young offenders and teenage mothers many of whom had poor self esteem associated with their experiences of sexual abuse poor parenting and racism. I have also worked with children who have witnessed domestic violence and who have been referred on for counselling or anger management of their own and, in younger children, play therapy.
Most recently I have practiced as a Children’s Guardian having been appointed to the Kent & Medway panel of Guardians ad Litem and Reporting Officers in September 2000.
