Sue Brookman

I am an independent qualified social worker and Children’s Guardian who has over 17 years experience of working with children, young people and families in various settings. I have worked as an independent social worker and as a Children’s Guardian for the past 11 years. Prior to this I worked in a Local Authority social services department. My final local authority post was as a Service Unit Manager for a large children and families team where cases of child abuse and neglect constituted the majority of work. I have chaired review Child Protection Case Conferences and looked after children reviews.

I have a comprehensive understanding of the Children Act and of other legislation which affects children such as the Community Care Act, Adoption Act and various Education Acts. I am familiar with court procedures and rules. My extensive experience of Child protection work has given me a sound knowledge of the procedures and policy of this work.

My current work requires an in depth understanding of child and family development and social work practice and theory. I carry out complex assessments which involve the application of this knowledge to particular family situations. As an Independent Social Worker and Children’s Guardian I have written numerous reports for the court and have given oral evidence in complex child care proceedings. I work efficiently and always comply with court deadlines.
