I am a very experienced social worker. I hold the Certificate of Qualification in Child Care from 1970 (CQSW equivalent). I have practiced as a Children’s Guardian since 1984 safeguarding the welfare interests of children brought before the UK courts because of child protection concerns or because of disputes between parents and carers (Public and Private Law)

My professional experience started with residential childcare work in Cornwall and Glamorgan (1962-1968) in which work I am also qualified – (Certificate of Qualification in Residential Child Care 1965). I worked as a local authority social worker from 1970 to 1973 and in social work management in Inner London from 1973 to 1985.

I have been in private practice now for 22 years working as a Guardian ad litem, Children’s Guardian and as Independent Social Worker. I am a self-employed contractor to CAFCASS. I have conducted assessments for, reported to and appeared as a witness in all types of Children Act proceedings in Adoption proceedings and at all court levels both as Independent Social Worker and as Children’s Guardian.

Over the last 22 years I have often been instructed as Independent Social Worker by solicitors, by local authorities and by other organizations and individuals to conduct assessments, provide advice or opinion, give evidence and to prepare reports in both public and private law matters concerning parents, carers, children and families. This work has included a few commissions to travel abroad and conduct assessments in other countries.

I am an interviewer for the Law Society in their procedures for selection of solicitors to be admitted to the Children Panel. I am a full member of the professional association for Children’s Guardians and Independent Social Workers (NAGALRO) and am listed in their Directory of Independent Social Workers. I have undertaken training as an Independent Social Worker and regularly update my knowledge through continuing training. I hold a CRB Enhanced Disclosure certificate and am registered with the General Social Care Council as a qualified social worker: registration number 1030889
