I am an experienced independent social worker. Over the past few years I have begun to take on a variety of work on a freelance basis. Particular work I have undertaken include:
Independent social work assessments in public law proceedings. Fee attracting Guardian ad Litem work with the Derby and Derbyshire GALRO Panel/CAFCASS East Midlands. Consultant for CCPAS (Churches Child Protection Advisory Service) since 2001; work undertaken includes manning the child protection helpline and providing training and consultancy to churches and community organizations. Work for Sheffield Social Services, under the Quality Protects programme, on developing a new assessment and care planning framework in response to the new Working Together guidance and local issues. Contracted work for one of the local authorities in Gwent around helping them to draw up some new practice guidelines around working with neglected children. Conducting an Independent Review of Worcestershire Local Authority’s Adoption Services with colleagues from De Montford University. Training and consultancy for CCPAS including providing evidence for the Victoria Climbie Inquiry on the role of churches in child protection. Work for Bridge Child Care Development Service as member of project team designing and delivering a multi professional training pack for Manchester Health Action Zone. Work for Children’s Society in advising on the rewrite of their Corporate Child Protection Policy. Writing the Sure Start Delivery Plan for NCH Gladless Valley Sure Start Programme. Study for Worcestershire Social Services on child protection and complaints procedures in Children’s Homes (part of ISWA project team). Independent Chair of Adoption Panel C for Notts County Council, April 2002 to March 2007. Writing practice guidance for Haringey ACPC on child protection and drug and alcohol abuse, child protection and domestic violence and key messages from the Climbie Inquiry (as Associate Consultant for Bridge). Critical reader for rewrite of OU course materials on child protection and working with young people. Interviewer in Phase Two of research commissioned by the Lord Chancellor’s Department on Minority Ethnic Parents and Child Protection Litigation (Lead Researcher, Dr Julia Brophy, Oxford University). Vice-Chair of Fostering Panel for Fostering Solutions (Independent Fostering Agency) from October 2004 onwards. Chair of Fostering Panel for Stoke City Council September 2006 onwards.
