Ben Horwood

My teaching experience involved working in a residential school for both boys and girls with emotional and behavioural difficulties. My initial training as an Educational Psychologist included working at Great Ormond Street Hospital’s department of Psychological Medicine. This has informed my practice. I have a particular interest in child development and recognize the importance of a holistic view of the child and the influences of the family and attachments on their development.

I have managed specialist and generic teams of Educational Psychologists and Specialist Teachers and Support Assistants operating in high need urban and rural areas at a very senior level, contributing to the development of a forward-looking service.

I was offered the opportunity to further specialise and build on my earlier experience and training by promoting the life chances of Children and Young People in Public Care in a multi-disciplinary team. I have, in this team, worked with mental health professionals developing strategy and preventative services as well as a direct service for the children and young people themselves. I am currently undertaking a professional doctorate, which is focusing on the needs of Children and Young People in Public Care.
